Myers’ 26 points send C-H to championship game
AJ Myers scored 20 of his game-high 26 points to propel Chartiers-Houston to a 66-45 win over South Allegheny in a non-section game at the Bentworth Tournament Monday night.
The Bucs (5-4) scored just 20 points in the first half before pulling away with a 26-point fourth quarter.
Cameron Hanley added 13 points and Andrew Clark 11 for C-H.
Jake Duval had 18 points for the Gladiators (0-9). Chartiers-Houston will play South Side Beaver tonight at 8:15 p.m. in the championship game.
McGuffey 56, Burgettstown 39: McGuffey had three players score in double figures and pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat Burgettstown 56-39, advancing to the championship game of Avella’s Washington County Stocking Stuffer Tournament.
Shaun Sanders had a game-high 16 points and Colin Chapman had 13 with 10 rebounds for the Highlanders (5-3), who outscored the Blue Devils, 16-7, in the fourth quarter. Burgettstown (3-7) was led by Jacob Schrockman’s 12 points. Fort Cherry 66, Freedom 42: Devon Brown and Rob McAnany combined for 39 points to help Fort Cherry defeat Freedom 66-42 at Avella High School’s Washington County Stocking Stuffer Tournament.
Brown had a game-high 21 points and McAnany added 18 for the Rangers (2-7), who snapped a five-game losing streak.
Nyah Baker had 12 points for the Bulldogs (1-8), who made 10 three-pointers.
Carmichaels 68, Mapletown 19: Eleven different players scored for Carmichaels as it defeated Mapletown 68-19 in the opening fame of the King Coal Lions Club Tournament.
Cody Brown had 18 points for the Mikes (4-3), who held the Maples to 11 points through three quarters. Mapletown was led by Alix Gennette’s nine points.
The Mikes will face Beth-Center in the championship game tonight at 7:30 p.m.
Beth-Center 69, Jefferson-Morgan 33: Luke Hess scored a game-high 19 points to help Beth-Center defeat Jefferson-Morgan 69-33, advancing to the championship game of Carmichaels High School’s King Coal Lions Club Tournament.
J.J. Green added 15 and Nick Pryor 10 for the Bulldogs (4-2), who led 34-16 at halftime. They will face Carmichaels Tuesday night in the championship game at 7:30 p.m.
D.L. Garrett had nine points for the Rockets (0-9).
Frazier 81, Avella 65: Caleb Cox and Damon Lovis combined for 46 points to lift Frazier over Avella, 81-65, in the Washington County Stocking Stuffer Tournament.
The Commodors (5-4) made just nine of 19 attemps from the line and scored 50 points in the second half. Avella (3-5) was held to seven second-quarter points and was led by Cody Dobbins’ 21 points. Austin Liss added 16 and Steven Miller 15.
South Side Beaver 69, Bentworth 32: Quae Thompson had 21 points and South Side Beaver jumped out to a 26-4 first quarter lead en route to a 69-32 victory over the host Bearcats at the Bentworth Tournament.
David Wilson chipped in 15 points for South Side Beaver (6-4), which will play Chartiers-Houston in the championship game today.
Nick Silver scored eight points to lead Bentworth (2-6), which will play South Allegheny in today’s consolation matchup.
Elizabeth Forward 41, California 36: Tre Mitchell scored 13 points as Elizabeth Forward knocked off California, 41-36, in the opening round of the Charleroi Federal Holiday Classic.
Kass Taylor (16 points) and Johnny DeFranco (14) combined for 30 of the 36 points for California (6-2), which will face Yough at 6 p.m. in today’s consolation game.
EF (3-7) will play host Charleroi in the championship game at 8 p.m.
First Love Christian Academy 79, Shaler 63: Christian Bentley scored 17 points to help First Love defeat Shaler, 79-63, in the first round of the Ligonier Valley Holiday Tip-off Tournament.
Kevin Hamlet added 12 poitnts and Jonathan James 11 for the Knights (11-1), who advanced to the championship game, where they will face Ligonier Valley today at 5 p.m.
Yough 58, Charleroi 51: Yough held Charleroi to two field goals in the fourth quarter to break open a tie game and beat the host Cougars, 58-51, in the opening round of the Charleroi Federal Holiday Classic.
Blake Kosar had 19 points and Nick Beers and Matt Huss had 12 each for Yough (6-3), which will play Elizabeth Forward at 9 p.m. today.
Sam Micelli scored a game-high 24 points for Charleroi (6-2), while Brock Shannon had 15. The Cougars will play California today at 6 p.m.
In other games, Southmoreland defeated Ringgold, 44-31, at the Charleroi Tournament. No other details were made available to the Observer-Reporter.
