Neverett accepts job with Boston Red Sox
There will be a new voice of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2016.
Tim Neverett, who has served as the Pirates’ play-by-play announcer for broadcasts on KDKA-FM 93.7 and Root Sports the last seven years, was named the new play-by-play host for the Boston Red Sox on WEEI, the team’s flagship radio station.
Neverett joins Joe Castiglione, who has been on the broadcast team since 1983, and replaces Dave O’Brien. The Pirates have begun searching for his replacement.
“Tim has been a consummate professional and a passionate ambassador of Pirates baseball for the last seven years,” Pirates president Frank Coonelly said in a statement. “During that time, Tim has called many great Pirates moments and has been an important part of a team that brings Pirates baseball to our fans with heart and genuine passion.”
Neverett, a New Hampshire native who played baseball at Emerson College in Boston, began his broadcasting career with the Nashua Pirates. He also spent four years calling Colorado Rockies games at FSN Rocky Mountain, plus he spent a decade broadcasting Triple-A games for the Padres and Dodgers.
