Peters Twp. wins KO tourney
Peters Township scored 55 first-half points Tuesday night and cruised to the championship of the Keystone Oaks tournament by rolling over the Golden Eagles 74-29.
The Indians (9-1) won the two games in the tournament by a combined 81 points.
Tournament MVP Madison Kerr paced PT with 15 points. Makenna Marisa followed with 13 points, and Alyssa Konopka and Ally Zuccarini each scored 10. Marisa and Konopka were named to the all-tournament team.
Peters Township led 30-9 after one quarter and 55-19 at halftime.
Keystone Oaks is 6-5.
Chartiers-Houston 52, Youngstown Ursuline 47: Defending champion Chartiers-Houston led almost the entire way and defeated Youngstown (Ohio) Ursuline 52-47 in the first round of the Farrell tournament.
Alexa Williamson and Jala Walker led the way for Chartiers-Houston (7-2). Williams scored a game-high 24 points and pulled down 16 rebounds. Walker followed with 19 points.
C-H built an 18-12 lead after one quarter and led 30-28 at halftime and 43-37 after three quarters. The Bucs did keep the game close by making only 14 of 27 free throws.
Ursuline (1-6) received 20 points from Dayshannette Harris. Simone Comer scored 10 points for the Fighting Irish.
Chartiers-Houston will play either Farrell at 3 p.m. today in the championship game.
West Greene 55, Bentworth 28: West Greene bounced back from its second loss of the season to defeat Bentworth 55-28 in the consolation game of the Bentworth tournament.
Madison Lampe scored 14 and McKenna Lampe had 12 to lead West Greene (8-2). The latter was named to the all-tournament team.
The Pioneers took control early, building an 11-2 lead after one quarter and increasing it to 38-19 after three quarters.
Heather Chester paced Bentworth (2-8) with 12 points.
Laurel Highlands 55, Beth-Center 31: Laurel Highlands dominated the second and third quarters en route to a 55-31 victory over Laurel Highlands in the Mustangs’ tournament.
LH (6-4) led 10-3 after one quarter and then outscored Beth-Center 41-17 over the next 16 minutes.
Ashley Galderisi led LH with 12 points and Siteri Tale followed with 11. Kinlee Whited paced Beth-Center (2-5) with 13 points including nine free throws.
Charleroi 51, Sewickley Academy 38: Charleroi built a 12-point halftime lead and held on behind three double-digit scorers to defeat Sewickley Academy, 51-38, at the California Tournament.
Aislyn Lee had 13 points, Kaitlyn Riley 12 and Maria Claybaugh 10 fro the Cougars (8-1), who were held to just 19 second-half points. Maddy Cassale had 18 points for the Panthers (3-6). The Cougars wil face Monessen today at 3 p.m.
California 51, Carmichaels 24: California outscored Carmichaels by 20 points in the second half on its way to a 51-24 victory at the California tournament.
Jenna Miller had 13 points, Marissa Bitonti had 10 and Dominique Gaston nine for the Trojans (6-3), who have won six consecutive games. California will face Carlynton in the championship game tonight at 7:30 p.m. The Mikes (4-6), meanwhile, will play Brentwood in a consolation game at 6 p.m. Gina Ranieri led Carmichaels with eight points.
South Allegheny 50, Monessen 28: South Allegheny used a 17-point first quarter fo defeat Monessen, 50-28, at the California tournament.
Lashaundria Gillaspie got seven points for the Greyhounds (1-8).
Jefferson-Morgan 46, Frazier 44: Jefferson-Morgan overcame a 10-point halftime deficit with 29 fourth-quarter points to defeat Frazier, 46-44, at the Laurel Highlands tournament, extending the Rockets’ winning streak to five games.
Kayla Yorko had 13 points and Nikki Venick 11 for Jefferson-Morgan (8-1), which scored just nine points in the first half and only eight in the third quarter. The Commodores (4-5) were led by Brooke Poling’s 17 points. J-M will play Beth-Center today at 11 a.m.
Waynesburg 58, Geibel Catholic 48: Senior guard Kirsten Garber scored a career-high 34 points to lift Geibel Catholic, 58-48, in the consolation game of the Geibel Catholic tournament.
Garber made six three-pointers and her 18 first-half points helped the Raiders (4-5) grab a six-point lead. Waynesburg senior guard Celine Monica scored 11 of her 18 points in the third quarter. The Raiders made eight three-pointers and held Geibel to six points in the second quarter.
The Gators (3-6) were led by Grace Nowicki’s 26 points.
Ellis School 46, Mapletown 14: Dayna Rose had a game-high 26 points to lead the Ellis School to a 46-14 win over Mapletown in the championship game of the Bentworth tournament.
The Tigers (8-0) led by 11 points at halftime and outscored Mapletown 25-4 in the second half. The Maples (2-8) scored 10 points in the first quarter, but were held to four the rest of the game.
Washington 51, Fort Cherry 35: Tajah Gordon scored a game-high 24 points to help Washington defeat Fort Cherry, 51-35, in the consolation game of the McGuffey tournament.
The Prexies (7-3) led by seven points at halftime before outscoring Fort Cherry 17-6 in the third quarter. Shannon Relihan had 15 points and Hannah Greene 14 for the Rangers (2-8).
Trinity 68, Woodland Hills 35: Sierra Kotchman and Mary Dunn combined for 47 points to lead Trinity to a 68-35 win over Woodland Hills in the opening game of the Mount Pleasant tournament.
Kotchman finished with 24 points, including four three-pointers, and Dunn had 23 points with 13 rebounds and 12 blocks. The Hillers (6-2), who will face the host team tonight in the championship game at 7:30 p.m., led 40-10 at halftime. The Wolverines (1-8) were led by Isi Palamone’s 13 points.
Brownsville 64, McGuffey 44: Maris Seto scored a game-high 23 points to help Brownsville claim the McGuffey Holiday Tournament championship with a 64-44 win over the host team.
Keyonaa McCrae added 18 and Lyric Mosley had 11 for the Falcons (9-2), who pulled away in the third quarter by only allowing six points in eight minutes. Katie Demi scored 21 points for the Highlands (1-8).
Burgettstown 55, Avella 44: Katie Tarr had 21 points to help Burgettstown defeat Avella, 55-44, in a non-section game.
Olivia Resnick added 17 points for the Blue Devils (7-2), who held the Eagles to just four third-quarter points. Grace Lengauer had 14 points and Grace Georgetti had 10 for Avella (2-6). Burgettstown made 17 of 31 free throws.
Bethel Park 49, South Fayette 33: Bethel Park won its own holiday tournament championship trophy with a 49-33 victory over South Fayette in the title game.
Shannon Conley had 25 points for the Black Hawks (9-1), who held the Lions to 12 second-half points. Autum Mozick had 11 points for South Fayette (7-1).
Belle Vernon 57, Uniontown 29: Belle Vernon won its third game of the season, getting 13 points from Alyssa Larson and defeating Uniontown 57-29 in the Laurel Highlands tournament.
Caitlyn Szakal and Kelsey Green each scored 10 points for Belle Vernon (3-6), which led 29-7 after one quarter. Green also had 12 rebounds and six assists.
Khai Harris scored 14 points for Uniontown (1-5).
