South Fayette girls move into second place

South Fayette had four players score in double figures and the Lions stretched their winning streak to seven games Thursday night with a 63-39 thumping of host Keystone Oaks in Section 5-AAA.

The win moves South Fayette (8-4, 16-5) into second place in the section, a half-game ahead of both Trinity and McGuffey. The Hillers and Highlanders meet tonight in Claysville.

Sophomore Carlee Kilgus led South Fayette with a game-high 17 points. She was followed by Emily Anderson with 16 points, Lauren Crites had 13 and Autumn Mozick scored 10. The Lions had a huge edge at the free-throw line, making 23 of 33 attempts compared to Keystone Oaks’ 3-for-6.

Alexis Menuri led Keystone Oaks (2-10, 4-17) with 12 points.

Chartiers-Houston 56, Burgettstown 26: Alexa Williamson scored a game-high 19 points and playoff-bound Chartiers-Houston cruised to a 56-26 victory over Burgettstown in Section 3-AA.

Chartiers-Houston, which has a non-section game remaining Monday at home against Frazier, improved to 8-4 in the section and 14-7 overall. The Bucs have won four consecutive home games.

Williams scored 14 of her 19 points during the first half, when C-H forged a commanding 37-8 lead. Jalynn Myers was the only other player to score in double figures for the Bucs with 10 points.

Burgettstown, which received six points from Samantha Scopel, ends its season 3-9 in the section and 10-12 overall.

Jefferson-Morgan 69, Mapletown 27: Three players scored in double figures to power Jefferson-Morgan to a 69-27 victory over Mapletown in a Section 3-A game.

Kayla Yorko tossed in 19 points to lead the Rockets (12-2, 19-2). Ally Bogden had 14 and Erin Confortini 11.

Taylor Vanata led the Maples (3-11, 5-17) with 8 points and Rachael Buchtan scored seven.

Fort Cherry 30, Geibel 25: Tina Bellhy scored 16 points to lead Fort Cherry to a 30-25 victory over Geibel in a Section 3-A game.

The win moved Fort Cherry to 11-10, including 9-5 in the section.

Grace Nowicki paced Geibel (8-6, 11-17) with 10 points.

Beth-Center 61, Bentworth 52: Anna Bartman scored a game-high 25 point to propel Beth-Center to a 61-52 victory over Bentworth in a Section 4-AA game.

Madison Darney chipped in 14 for the Bulldogs (9-3, 12-4), who outscored Bentworth, 42-26, in the second half.

Reilly Skerbetz scored 20 points for Bentworth (3-9, 8-13) and Tori Cicci and Grace Marchezak each contributed 11 points.

Avella 39, West Greene 18: Grace Lengauer scored 10 points as Avella defeated West Greene, 39-18, in a Section 3-A game.

Avella (4-10, 6-15) led just 16-9 at the half, but outscored West Greene (0-14, 0-22) 12-1 in the third quarter to pull away.

Marissa Rode led West Greene with seven points.
