PITTSBURGH — Jamel Artis added 24 points and Michael Young had 22 points and nine rebounds as Pittsburgh overcame another terrific performance by Boston College’s Olivier Hanlan in a 71-65 win on Tuesday night.
Cameron Wright added 10 for the Panthers (19-10, 8-7 ACC), who have won six of eight to keep their hopes of a third straight NCAA tournament appearance alive. Pitt led by as much as 15 but needed to sweat out another spectacular night from Hanlan.
The ACC’s leading scorer put up 39 points despite battling foul trouble in the second half but could not stop the Eagles (9-18, 1-14) from losing their ninth straight. Aaron Brown chipped in 20 points for Boston College.
The rest of the team managed just six points and the Eagles went just 17 of 24 at the free throw line, including a handful of critical misses in the second half.
