Arnold paces Cougars; Record night for J-M

John Arnold’s 26 points helped Charleroi overcome a 14-point second quarter deficit en route to a 60-44 Section 4-AA victory over Carmichaels that clinched a playoff spot for the Cougars Tuesday night in a high school boys basketball game.

Sam Miceli added 15 points for the Cougars (9-1, 11-6), who trailed 25-11 early in the second quarter before going on a 17-4 run. Josh Sidary chipped in 10 points in the winning effort.

Nick Mundell led Carmichaels (1-7, 5-12) with 19 points.

Jefferson-Morgan 92, Avella 55: Rece Henneman had a record night for Jefferson-Morgan.

The senior scored a school-record 43 points in a 92-55 victory over Avella in Section 3-A. Henneman had 17 baskets and four free throws.

Austin Clark scored 23 points and had a career-high seven three-point field goals, all in the first half, for the Rockets (4-5, 9-8). Jalen Torrez chipped in with 10.

Matt Wander and C.J. Norman each scored 13 for Avella (1-9, 1-18) and Cody Dobbin had 11.

Washington 65, Brentwood 30: Matt Popeck scored 23 points and Washington held Brentwood to eight points combined in the second and third quarters as the Prexies earned a Section 3-AA victory.

Nathan Swart added 11 points and Markel Pullium had 10 for Washington (9-2, 11-6), which has clinched a playoff spot.

Brentwood falls to 3-8, 4-13).

South Fayette 59, West Allegheny 43: Brett Brumbaugh scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as South Fayette topped West Allegheny, 59-43, in a Section 5-AAA game.

Jack Relihan led a balanced scoring effort with 17 points, while Nick McKee had 16 for the Lions (9-0, 14-1).

Tyler Scanlon led West Allegheny (5-5, 8-9) with 13 points.

California 53, West Greene 29: Kass Taylor had 14 points as California defeated West Greene, 53-39, in a Section 3-A game.

John DeFranco added 12 points and KC Zajicek added 10 for playoff-bound California (9-1, 13-4).

Kolten Rush and Craig Weaver had 11 points each for West Greene, which fell into a tie with Jefferson-Morgan for the fourth, and final, playoff spot in the section at 4-5, 6-12.

Peters Township 67, Moon 58: Tim Swoope had 13 points and Ryan Faloni dished out nine assists to lead Peters Township to a 67-58 Section 4-AAAA win over Moon.

Nick Valentic and Kelson Marisa had 12 points each and Connor Freely added 10 for the Indians (2-8, 6-10).

Mett Kotvas led all scorers with 24 points for Moon (1-9, 3-12).

Uniontown 73, Ringgold 46: Joe Campbell’s 29 points led Uniontown to a 73-46 Section 4-AAA win over Ringgold.

DeAundre Winfrey added 15 points for Uniontown (10-1, 16-2).

George Martin and Anthony Pampina had 10 points each for Ringgold (3-8, 7-11).

Keystone Oaks 63, McGuffey 47: Jake Morgan hit seven three-pointers to score 21 points as Keystone Oaks defeated McGuffey, 63-47, for its first Section 5-AAA victory.

Cody Phillippi added 16 points for Keystone Oaks (1-9, 3-15).

Nick Haynes and Zach Maxwell scored 11 points each to lead McGuffey (2-7, 6-11).

Baldwin 62, Canon-McMillan 55: Anthony Starzynski had 19 points as Baldwin held off Canon-McMillan, 62-55, in a Section 4-AAAA game.

Kevin Taylor added 14 points for Baldwin (3-8, 4-14), which built a 44-33 lead after three quarters.

Britton Beachy had a game-high 22 points for the Big Macs (4-7, 9-10).

Bishop Canevin 86, Fort Cherry 50: Mitchell King tossed in 16 points to pace Bishop Canevin to an 86-50 victory over Fort Cherry in a Section 3-AA game.

John Weldon poured in 14 for BC (9-2, 14-4).

Rob McAnany scored 15 points and Devon Brown 12 for the Rangers (2-9, 3-15).

Monessen 89, Geibel 39: Lavalle Rush and Jaden Altomore combined for 33 points as Monessen rolled past Geibel 89-39 in a Section 3-A game.

Rush had 17 and Altomore 16 for the Greyhounds (9-0, 12-6), who outscored Geibel 38-5 in the third quarter.

Bailey Miller had 19 for Geibel (5-5, 8-9).

Waynesburg 64, Beth-Center 58: Three players scored in double figures to power Waynesburg to a 64-58 victory over Beth-Center in a Section 4-AA game.

Jason Zeleny led the way with 24 points for the Raiders (7-3, 12-6). Mitch Warman had 17 points and Dom Sarra tossed in 14.

Bradey McDonnell scored a team-high 21 for B-C (1-7, 8-9) and Ryan Beyer contributed 13.

Brownsville 76, Bentworth 53: Travis Bevard scored 20 points and Brownsville broke the game open in the second quarter on the way to a 76-53 win over Bentowrth in a Section 4-AA game.

Trayvon Brown had 15 points for Brownsville (7-2, 13-5).

Zach Walker scored 16 points and Angelo Rio-Lopez 14 for the Bearcats (2-7, 6-12), who were outscored 26-9 in the second half.

Girls results

Mapletown 43, Hundred 27: Lauren Sanetrik scored seven of her game-high 12 points in the fourth quarter to help Mapletown defeat Hundred, 43-27, in a non-section game.

Rachel Buchtan had 11 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks for the Maples (5-13). Abby Shipley tossed in 10.

Burgettstown 54, Bentworth 48: Burgettstown outscored Bentworth by 21 points over the second half to grab a 54-48 victory in a non-section game.

Katie Tarr had a game-high 22 points for the Blue Devils (10-9), who trailed at halftime 31-16. Maddy Banaszak scored 12 points and Sam Scopel added 11 .

Reilly Skerbetz led the Bearcats (8-10) with 20 points and Heather Chester chipped in with 17.

McGuffey 55, Keystone Oaks 38: Sammie Weiss scored a game-high 26 points to lead McGuffey past host Keystone Oaks 55-38 in a section 5-AAA game.

Rachel Czulewicz added 12 points for the Highlanders (7-2, 14-3).

Kayla Brownlee had 14 points for Keystone Oaks (2-8, 4-14).

Jefferson-Morgan 57, Avella 22: Three players scored in double figures to propel Jefferson-Morgan to a 57-22 win over visiting Avella in Section 3-A.

Nikki Venick blazed the path with 15 points and Erin Confortini and Morgan Simkovic each scored 11 for the Rockets (10-1, 16-1).

Avella fell to 4-14, including 2-9 in the section.

Charleroi 47, Carmichaels 28: Charleroi limited Carmichaels to three second-half points as the Cougars rallied to defeat the Mikes, 47-28, in a Section 4-AA game and clinch a playoff spot.

After falling behind, 25-20, at the half, Charleroi (7-3, 11-7) outscored the Mikes (2-7, 8-11), 11-3 in the third quarter and 16-0 in the final eight minutes to earn the win.

Aislyn Lee scored 11 points, while Sierra Short had 10 points and 11 rebounds and Kaitlyn Riley had 10 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

Caroline Cree had 20 points but was 2 for 12 from the free throw line as the Mikes went 2 for 15 as a team.

Beth-Center 53, Waynesburg 30: Anna Bartman scored 16 points to lead Beth-Center to a 53-30 Section 4-AA win over Waynesburg.

Kinlee Whited added 13 points for the Bulldogs (6-3, 9-4), who opened the game with a 12-2 run.

Celine Monica led Waynesburg (0-10, 2-13) with 11 points.

California 60, West Greene 12: Lyndsey Huhn’s 16 points helped California defeat West Greene, 60-12, in a Section 3-A game.

Bailey Vig added 11 points for the Trojans (11-0, 18-1), who led 29-1 after one quarter.

Sarah Courtwright scored five points to lead West Greene (0-11, 0-19).

Fort Cherry 41, Monessen 32: Hannah Greene scored 18 points and Fort Cherry held Monessen without a first quarter field goal as the Rangers earned a 41-32 win over the Greyhounds in Section 3-A.

Tina Bellhy added 11 points for Fort Cherry (7-4, 8-9).

Cara Grogan led Monessen (5-6, 7-11) with 10 points.
