Wild Things shoot down Aviators
ROCKFORD, Ill. – Washington scored four runs after two outs in the top of the seventh inning to erase a 3-0 deficit and defeat Rockford, 6-3, Friday night in a Frontier League baseball game.
Austin Wobrock, who was named an All-Star earlier this week, hit a two-run triple and Sam Mende followed with a two-run home run to put the Wild Things (22-27) ahead, 4-3.
Washington added an insurance run in each of the eighth and ninth innings, including a home run by David Popkins in the ninth, his team-best 13th of the season.
Jonathan Kountis got the final three outs to earn the save, his fifth of the season.
Colby Holmes took the loss for West Division-leading Rockford (29-18), allowing one run on Mendes’ homer, in 1/3 of an inning.
