7 pitchers, 7 runs for Crushers
AVON, Ohio – Frank Desico hit a bases-loaded triple and Lake Erie used seven pitchers Sunday in a 7-3 victory over the Wild Things at All Pro Freight Stadium.
The loss prevented the Wild Things (11-16) from sweeping the three-game series. Washington begins a series Tuesday night against the Southern Illinois Miners at Consol Energy Park.
Each team scored a run in the third inning of the game, which was twice delayed by rain. The Wild Things took a 1-0 lead when Danny Poma scored on a wild pitch, but an RBI single by the Crushers’ Joe Burney tied the score at 1-1.
Lake Erie took the lead with a three-run sixth. Two runs scored on a three-base throwing error by third baseman Carter Bell. The Crushers scored three more runs in the seventh on Desico’s triple.
Washington produced single runs in the eighth and ninth innings. Brady North hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth.
In the ninth, John Fidanza tripled and scored on sacrifice fly by Austin Wobrock.
Losing pitcher Tim Flight (2-2) gave up four runs (one earned) in 5 1/3 innings. Trevor Longfellow (2-1), the third Lake Erie pitcher, was the winner.
