Bengals part ways with Pryor

The Bengals waived quarterback Terrelle Pryor at the conclusion of their minicamp Thursday, leaving one less candidate for the job of backing up Andy Dalton.

The former Ohio State quarterback signed with the Bengals May 10 following a tryout during rookie camp. He was competing with AJ McCarron and Josh Johnson for the backup job.

McCarron, a fifth-round draft pick, missed last season with a sore shoulder. Johnson returned to Cincinnati after spending the 2014 season with San Francisco. The competition for the No. 2 spot will be one of the areas of focus of training camp in July.

Oakland took Pryor in the third round of the 2011 supplemental draft. He played three seasons and started 16 games for the Raiders.

Wilson mum on contract talks: Wilson wouldn’t budge much Thursday when asked about his ongoing contract negotiations after the Seattle Seahawks finished up minicamp.

Wilson is set to enter the final year of his rookie deal, which is worth $1.5 million in 2015.

“As you guys know, I’m not going to go into great detail about that at all,” Wilson said. “It’s a private matter.”

Wilson, 26, is beginning his fourth NFL season. He indicated earlier this year that he is willing to play this season without a new deal and confirmed reports that he took out an insurance policy in the event he sustains a serious injury.

“In terms of the insurance policy, that’s just being smart if I do have to play this season (without a new deal), Wilson said. “That’s all that is, really. I think that’s the right thing to do.”

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll was asked if he expects a deal to be done before training camp. Carroll said he maintains a constant dialogue with Wilson but hasn’t broached the subject of his contract negotiations.

“They’re still working at it, and I’m hopeful,” he said. “We’re hopeful. That’s why we’re working.”

Beckham out at camp: Odell Beckham Jr. didn’t have much of a minicamp with the New York Giants.

Bothered again by a hamstring injury, the dynamic wide receiver spent the past three days working in straight lines with trainers; talking with the also-injured Victor Cruz; taking mental notes on the field; and soaking in classroom sessions for a second season in coordinator Ben McAdoo’s version of the West Coast offense.

It wasn’t fun. Neither was being teased by teammates about another `hammy’ injury.

Giants sign Flowers: Tackle Ereck Flowers, the New York Giants’ top draft pick this year, has signed a four-year contract with the team.

Flowers negotiated the deal himself, which the Giants announced Thursday at the end of their minicamp. He is slotted to make around $14.5 million with a signing bonus in the neighborhood of $8.7 million. The team holds an option on a fifth year.

New York expects Flowers to move into the starting lineup at left tackle; incumbent Will Beatty is sidelined with a pectoral injury.

“I made a lot of progress,” Flowers said of the minicamp. “I have a better understanding of the plays. I got a lot more comfortable out there. Everything was a success.”
