Wild Things no-hit by Freedom
FLORENCE, Ky. – Casey Henn threw a seven-inning no-hitter with nine strikeouts and just one walk as Florence shut out the Wild Things, 8-0, in the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday night.
Henn needed just 86 pitches, 60 of which he threw for strikes, as he shut down Washington (13-22), facing just two batters over the minimum.
Washington starter Ernesto Zaragoza was not nearly as sharp, allowing six runs, two of which were earned, on five hits and three walks in 2/3 of an inning.
Daniel Fraga, Collins Curthrell and Travis Weaver drove in two runs each for Florence (14-21).
The no-hitter was the second in the Frontier League this season. Southern Illinois’ Matt Bywater threw a nine-inning no-hitter June 12 against Evansville. It was second no-hitter in Florence history. Preston Vancil recorded one in 2009.
The no-hitter overshadowed a strong performance by Washington’s Luke Wilkins in the opener.
Wilkins allowed three hits and one run in five innings as Washington took the first game of the Frontier League doubleheader, 2-1.
Wilkins improved to 3-2 with the victory, combining with Richie Mirowski and Matt Purnell on a four-hitter in the seven-inning game. Purnell recorded his third save of the season.
Danny Poma led off the game with a home run for the Wild Things. He also singled in the seventh inning.
Kyle Carter homered for Florence.
