Wild Things come up run short against Miners
Southern Illinois made an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth inning stand in a 2-1 victory over the Washington Wild Things Saturday in a Frontier League game at Rent One Park.
The loss was the second straight for the Wild Things and eighth in the last 10 games.
John Klein pitched six strong innings, allowing one run for Southern Illinois. The Miners bullpen allowed only one hit over three innings.
Steve Marino started the fourth with a single and moved to second on an error on the play. Toby Demello drove in Marino with a single.
The Miners took a 1-0 lead after loading the bases in the bottom of the third when Brian Portelli and Aaron Gates singled to start the inning and Michael Early walked. Niko Vazquez then drew a walk off Wild Things starter Steve Messner.
The Wild Things tied the game in the top of the fourth on a solo home run by Matt Ford.
