Wild Things rip Miners
MARION, Ill. – Matt Sergey pitched seven scoreless innings, striking out 10, as Washington defeated Southern Illinois, 10-1, Sunday at Rent One Park in a Frontier League Baseball game.
Sergey (3-3) scattered six hits and lowered his season ERA to 2.39 for the Wild Things (15-24), who avoided a sweep in the three-game weekend series with the win.
Sam Mende and Matt Ford both homered for Washington, which led 9-0 through eight innings, while seven of the nine starters for the Wild Things had multiple hits in a 14-hit attack. Ford also drove in three runs.
Leadoff hitter Aaron Gates had three of the eight hits for Southern Illinois (24-15), which is two games behind first-place Traverse City in the East Division standings.
