Waynesburg led by five points with less than six minutes remaining in regulation, but Hood mounted an 11-2 run and held on to defeat the Yellow Jackets, 59-55, in the ECAC South Tournament quarterfinals at Rudy Marisa Field House.

The Blazers (15-12) advance to the semifinals where they will face second-seeded Stevenson (19-9) in the semifinals Saturday at Bethany College, while the Yellow Jackets’ season ends with a 18-11 overall record.

Waynesburg led for almost 30 minutes of game action and by as many as seven points midway through the first half, but Hood fought back to force seven lead changes.

Leading 53-48 with less than 5:48 remaining, Hood forced four turnovers in the final minutes, making seven free throws in the final four minutes to cap an 11-2 run and securing the win.

Terell Buyck led the Yellow Jackets with 12 points and James Brown added 10 for Hood, which made 21 of 30 attempts at the free throw line and overcame 15 turnovers.

BJ Durham scored all 10 of his points in the first half and Jacob Fleegle finished with 14 points. Waynesburg shot just 30.4 percent from the field and missed 19 three-point attempts.

Waynesburg senior Jason Propst, a First-Team All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference selection who averages a team-high 11 points per game, did not play against the Blazers.
