Softball: Gray’s grand slam helps Trinity win

Olivia Gray’s grand slam home run in the second inning highlighted an 11-7 victory by Trinity over West Mifflin in a Section 3-AAA game.
Delaney Elling, Hali Justice and Madison Hornak each hit a double for the Hillers (1-0, 1-0). Payton Barr had two RBI.
• Bailey Bennington struck out 11 and allowed one hit to help West Greene to a 5-0 victory over California in a non-section game.
Madison Renner had a two-run double for the Pioneers (1-0) and Bennington drove in a run.
Rachel Wilkinson had the only hit for California (0-2), a single in the third inning.
• Dana Vatakis had a double and triple in Monessen’s 8-7 win over Charleroi. She also struck out eight to get the win. Taylor Guzzie tripled and Tore Cooper doubled for Monessen. Morgan Riley went 3-for-3 for Charleroi.
Rob Shultz doubled and drove in two runs to propel Bentworth to a 9-0 victory over McGuffey in a non-section game.
Hunter Neely had two hits and scored twice for the Bearcats (1-0) and Tyler Mitchell had three hits and scored twice. Nick Silver had two hits and an RBI.
• Playing in his first game since tearing his MCL, PCL and meniscus in an October football game, John Glenn Davis had two hits and Waynesburg defeated West Greene, 13-3, in a six-innings non-section game.
Hunter Robinson had a pair of triples and three RBI, and Joel Rohanna pitched four innings to get the win for the Raiders (1-0).
Tanner Wildman took the loss for West Greene (0-1).
• Frank Jezioro had two doubles and a triple, scoring four runs, as Peters Township held off Fox Chapel, 8-7, in a non-section game.
Ryan Tassone added a pair of doubles, and Tim Swoope and Brett McIntosh had one each. McIntosh knocked in three runs for the Indians (2-0). Bob Finn earned the win.
Ryan Humbert took the loss, while Josh Kieffer doubled for Fox Chapel (0-1).
