Nick Kusich went 2-for-3 with a double and 4 RBI Tuesday to lead Avella to an 11-3 win over West Greene in a non-section game.
Winning pitcher Cody Dobbin and Luke Lloyd each had a double for the Eagles (1-0). West Greene fell to 0-2.
• Winning pitcher Sam Hockenberry also doubled as Burgettstown defeated Mapletown, 17-2, in a non-section game.
Dylan Dhans homered for Burgettstown (1-0).
Cody Dice was the losing pitcher for the Maples (0-1).
• East Fairmont handed Trinity its first loss of the season, 4-1 in a non-section game. Garrett Briant produced Trinity’s lone run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh. The Hillers are 1-1.
• California won its home-opener against Washignton, 14-4, Monday, extending the win streak there to 22 straight. Cal has not lost a home game since May of 2011.
Johnny DeFranco went 2-for-2 with 3 RBI and Louden Conte scored 4 runs. Aaron Previsky went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI. Garitt Woodburn tossed 5 innings and surrendered 2 earned runs while striking out 4.
