Alec Ferrari

Guard, Chartiers-Houston

Ferrari broke out as a senior this season by averaging 23.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.1 assists and almost three steals per game for the Bucs, who reached the WPIAL Class AA playoffs for the second consecutive season. Ferrari was voted the co-MVP of Section 3-AA, finished his career with 1,099 points and is the school’s all-time assist leader with 340. He averaged 26 ppg in final five section games to lift C-H into the playoffs and set school’s single-game record twice with 44 and 47 points in separate games against Fort Cherry.

Jack Relihan

Guard, South Fayette

One of the top guards in WPIAL Class AAA, Relihan’s 16.1 points per game helped the Lions capture a section title. He scored 28 points to lead South Fayette over Steel Valley in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs. Though the Lions were eliminated in the PIAA playoffs, his 16 points were a team-high. Relihan also averaged 2.2 steals and 3.5 rebounds per game.

Lavalle Rush

Guard, Monessen

Rush’s 17 points per game led the Greyhounds, who won the WPIAL Class A title. In the championship game against Jeannette, Rush scored 18 points. He averaged 22.6 points per game in seven postseason games, including 73 points in three PIAA playoff games. One of the most talented all-around players in the area, Rush is in position to reach 1,000 career points as a senior next season.

John Arnold

Forward, Charleroi

The 6-8 force in the lane was dominant on both ends of the court, averaging 13.8 points and 12 rebounds per game. He helped the Cougars to a share of the Section 2-AA title, including a 16-point, 18-rebound performance to lead Charleroi over Waynesburg Jan. 23. Though the season ended in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs, Arnold scored a team-high 13 points.

Rece Henneman

Guard, Jefferson-Morgan

The 6-5 senior took another step forward this winter and was one of the WPIAL’s leading scorers, averaging 25.2 points and 10 rebounds per game. He broke the school’s single-game record with 43 points Jan. 27 in a win over Avella. Henneman became the school’s 12th 1,000-point scorer Dec. 8 in a victory over Beth-Center. He also helped the Rockets return to the WPIAL playoffs, averaging 26.5 points per game in their final four section games.

Girls

Sammie Weiss

Guard, McGuffey

The three-time O-R Player of the Year did the unthinkable this season: she got better. Weiss, a California University recruit, eclipsed the 2,000 career point mark and finished with 2,394 for her career. Weiss also averaged 6.7 rebounds and 3.9 steals per game. She averaged 24 points per game in seven playoff games and helped McGuffey win its first state playoff game in program history.

Cheyenne Trest

Guard, Canon-McMillan

The 5-6 point guard averaged 15.6 points and 6 assists per game for the Big Macs, who despite missing the playoffs, were the third-highest scoring offense in WPIAL Class AAAA. Trest scored a season-high 28 points Feb. 6 in a 67-60 victory over rival Peters Township. She made 38 consecutive free throws over a seven-game span and 99 of 109 (91 percent) for the season.

Alexa Williamson

Forward, Chartiers-Houston

The athletic 6-1 freshman quickly became one of the most feared post players in the WPIAL this season, averaging 21 points and 12 rebounds per game for the Bucs, who reached the PIAA Class AA quarterfinals. She averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds in three state playoff games, including 24 points and 12 rebounds in a second-round win over Carlynton. She surpassed the 20-point mark 15 times.

Madison Kerr

Guard, Peters Township

The junior continued to establish herself as a top guard in Quad-A by averaging 16 points, nine rebounds and four assists per game for the Indians, who almost doubled their win total from 2013-14. She surpassed the 1,000-point mark with 13 against Upper St. Clair Feb. 2. Kerr had seven double-doubles this season. Though her scoring output decreased slightly, the 5-9 guard was a presence at both ends of the floor for PT.

Emily Anderson

Forward, South Fayette

The 6-4 junior center burst onto the scene after missing 18 games as a sophomore with a knee injury. Anderson averaged 11.8 points and 9.8 rebounds per game this season for the Lions, who fell to Blackhawk in the WPIAL Class AAA title game. In the loss to the Cougars, Anderson had 17 points and 12 rebounds. She also scored 17 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked five shots in the semifinal win over South Park.
