Local briefs: Indians split pair in South Carolina

The Peters Township boys baseball team split a pair of games in Myrtle Beach on Sunday, beating Henry Clay, Ky., 10-4, before losing to Kenston, Ohio, 7-4.
Phil Mary earned the win in the opener for the Indians (4-1) with the help of a triple by Tim Swoope and a double from Alex Mundy.
Frank Jezioro hit a two-run homer for the Indians in the night cap but it was not enough to overcome five PT errors. Ryan Frizell took the loss.
Mark Peccera and LB Webber both tripled for Kenston.
Washington & Jefferson opened its Presidents’ Athletic Conference softball season with a split of a doubleheader with Westminster, winning the opener, 8-0, before dropping the nightcap, 3-2.
Krista McCartney earned the win in the opener for W&J (1-1, 8-6), allowing six hits and striking out three in the five-inning game.
Jamie Smith homered, while Morgan Staab doubled.
Amber Forrest struck out eight in eight innings in the nightcap for Westminster (1-1, 11-5) to win a pitcher’s duel with Emily Watson.
Led by Michelle Klein and Marissa Sudar, who finished in a tie for second place, the Washington & Jefferson women’s golf team finished second overall at the McDaniel Spring Invitational at The Bridges Golf Club in Abbottstown.
Owen Miller, a Burgettstown High School graduate, led the men’s team to a fifth-place finish.
Klein and Sudar both finished with two-day totals of 175, 14 strokes behind medalist Claire O’Neil of St. Lawrence.
Miller finished at 155, 11-over par and sixth overall.
