Bucs draw top seed in Class A softball pairings
Chartiers-Houston drew the top seed in the WPIAL Class A softball pairings that were announced on Thursday.
The Bucs (17-2) get a first-round bye and will play the winner of a first-round game between Monessen and North Catholic, which will be played at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Baldwin, in the quarterfinals.
The seedings didn’t go as well for other area teams, as Jefferson-Morgan, which finished tied with Chartiers-Houston for the Section 1-A title, was the only other area team to draw one of the top four seeds in any classification.
Waynesburg, which tied Bentworth for third place in Section 2-AA and is 8-11 overall, will play South Allegheny (7-6) in a pigtail game at 2 p.m. Monday. The winner advances to face top-seeded Deer Lakes Wednesday.
In addition to Monessen, three other area teams will open postseason play on Tuesday. West Greene plays Greensburg Central Catholic at 2 p.m. at California University; Jefferson-Morgan, the No. 3 seed in Class A, will play Western Beaver at 4 p.m. at Fairhaven Park; and Canon-McMillan faces Latrobe at 6 p.m. at California University in a Class AAAA game.
Six other area teams – McGuffey, Carmichaels, Burgettstown, South Fayette, Trinity and Bentworth – will wait until Wednesday before playing their first postseason game.
