The Wild Things trimmed their roster to 28 players Sunday by releasing 10 and placing two on the retired list.

Lefty-handed relief pitcher Matt Phillips and middle infielder Ryan Kresky were placed on the retired list. Phillips was trying to come back from shoulder surgery that caused him to miss all of last season after having a very good year for Washington in 2013. Kresky played for Evansville in 2013 and was acquired by Washington last year in a trade. He batted .215 with four home runs and 24 RBI with the Wild Things.

Released were pitchers Mike Devine, Jeremy Holcombe, Cory Jordan and Ryan Wakefield, catchers Sammy Ayala and Colbe Herr, first basemen Joey Miller and Jack Morrow and second baseman/outfielder Daniel Massey. A Springdale native, Devine played three seasons in the Frontier League with Traverse City and Normal.

Washington must get down to 24 active players by Thursday. The Wild Things open the Frontier League season Friday at home against the two-time defending champion Schaumburg Boomers.
