Neshannock picks off Bentworth
NEW CASTLE – Neshannock returned three interceptions for touchdowns in the first half and cruised to a 49-13 victory over Bentworth in a WPIAL Class A playoff game Friday night.
In a span of 41 seconds in the first quarter, Mason Davidson returned one interception 27 yards for a score and Danny Welker returned one 35 yards for a TD. Robert Lindsey returned an interception 39 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter for one of his three scores. He also ran in two in the second half from 32 and 15 yards.
Riley Nickeson caught a four-yard pass from Josh Hughes before halftime to make it 28-6. Hughes was 19 of 33 for 208 yards and threw five interceptions before leaving the game in the fourth quarter with an injury. Tyler Mitchell caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Ben Peternel in the fourth quarter to end the scoring for Bentworth (6-5), the third-place team from the Tri-County South Conference. Noah Peternel caught eight passes for 103 yards.
Frank Antuono passed for 59 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 59 yards for the Lancers (10-1), runnerup in the Big 7 Conference.
