Duquesne wins first NEC football title

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Rafiq Douglas matched a career-high with three touchdowns, and Duquesne beat Saint Francis (Pa.) 30-20 Saturday to win its first Northeast Conference title in program history.

Douglas had 165 yards on 28 carries with scoring runs of 2, 3 and 6 yards. Dillon Buechel was 17 of 31 for 281 yards passing with a 62-yard touchdown pass to Wayne Capers Jr. for Duquesne (5-1 Northeast Conference, 8-3), which is in its eighth season as an NEC member.

Zack Drayer was 12 of 21 with two touchdown passes, but threw three interceptions for Saint Francis (4-2, 6-4). Khairi Dickson ran for 102 yards, and Daniel Adams and Terell Smith had touchdown catches.

Drayer threw both touchdown passes in the first quarter to give the Red Flash a 14-0 lead. The Dukes made it 30-14 before Drayer ran for a 1-yard score with ten minutes left.
