Bellhy doubles W&J’s fun in win
Beka Bellhy had a double-double – 26 points and 12 rebounds in 34 minutes – to help Washington & Jefferson stop La Roche, 90-82, in a nonconference game.
The Presidents improved to 4-1 and extend their winning streak to four games after a season-opening loss. The Redhawks fell to 2-1.
La Roche held a 44-43 lead at halftime but the Presidents outscored them, 47-38, in the second half, including 29-20 in the fourth quarter. W&J finished the game on a 12-7 run.
Taylor Cortazzo had 17 points and five rebounds for W&J. Amirah Moore had 13 points, four assists and three steals. Bellhy, a Fort Cherry graduate, also had five assists and was 10 of 11 from the free throw line.
TiChina Mitchell scored 216 points and grabbed 13 rebound for La Roche. Sabrina McLin had 23 points, including 15 from three-point range. Mackenzie O’Donnell had 15 points and Danasha Harris eight points, eight rebounds, five steals and eight assists.
Allegheny 85, Waynesburg 82, OT: Rachel Vigliotti hit three key free throws in overtime to help send Allegheny to an 85-82 victory over Waynesburg in a nonconference game.
The last free throw by Vigliotti gave Allegheny an 83-79 lead and a layup by Kaitlyn Fromknecht put the game away with three seconds to play.
Fromknecht finished with a double-double – 12 points and 12 rebounds – as did Ifeyinwa Uwazie, who had 11 points and 15 rebounds for Allegheny (3-3).
Addy Knetzer, a graduate of Chartiers-Houston, hit a jump shot with 31 seconds left in regulation to send it to overtime, tied at 76. She finished with 14 points. Maura Bobby led the Yellow Jackets (1-4) with 24 points. Lauren Blair and Katie Gehlmann each scored 11 points and Haley Delaney grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
Men’s Results
Muskingum 84, Wash & Jeff 52: Four players scored in double figures to power Muskingum to an 84-52 victory over Washington & Jefferson in a non conference game. It was the fifth straight loss for the Presidents since the beginning of the season.
Jacob Geller came off the bench to score 12 points and pull down seven rebounds to help Muskingum take a 43-18 halftime lead, thanks to a 14-1 run midway through. Jalen Paige and Josh Glass each scored 11 points and Josh Keyes had 10 points and seven rebounds.
Giane Buarne led the Presidents with 15 points and Christian Rohaus added 10 points while Joe Satira had nine. Kodie Hanley, a graduate of Chartiers-Houston, had four blocks and a team-high six rebounds. Satira and Brian Graytok had two steals apiece.
