McGuffey survives Waynesburg upset bid

WAYNESBURG – Marcus Czulewicz threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score in the closing moments of the fourth quarter as McGuffey pulled away from Waynesburg late in a 31-12 victory in an Interstate Conference game Friday night.

Czulewicz threw for 196 yards and two scores and rushed for 84 yards on 13 carries for the Highlanders (5-2, 6-2).

McGuffey led just 15-12 until Czulewicz and Adam Townsend connected for a second time, this one on a 34-yard TD pass with 4:04 remaining in the game.

The Highlanders then recorded a safety on the ensuing series when the ball was snapped over Waynesburg quarterback Colin McCracken’s head. Czulewicz then scored on a 16-yard run to finish the Raiders (1-6, 1-7).

Jack Fudala and Derek Wilson scored for Waynesburg, with Wilson’s score coming on a pass from McCracken, who threw for 89 yards and rushed for 68.

Czulewicz threw three touchdown passes.
