Boomers bounce Things

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – A five-run seventh inning broke open a close game and sent the Schaumburg Boomers past the Washington Wild Things, 9-3, in a Frontier League game Tuesday night.

The loss was the eighth in nine games for the Wild Things, who dropped to 39-52.

Washington trailed 3-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh. Tyler Nelson opened the inning with a solo home run and John Menken added a two-run single to highlight the inning.

Cam Sherrer went 1-for-2 and scored three runs, Ken Kirshner went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs and Kyle Ruchim went 2-for-4 with three RBI. The top three batters in Schaumburg’s lineup went 6-for-12 with five RBI and three runs scored.

Luke Wilkins gave up six runs in 6 1/3 innings for the Wild Things and Matt Purnell did not record an out but gave up three hits and two runs. Scott Kalamar and Austin Wobrock each had two hits.
