Girls soccer: Thomas’ goal wins for Canon-McMillan

Allison Thomas scored the only goal of the match midway through the second half Saturday and Canon-McMillan won 1-0 at Bethel Park in a non-section contest.

Thomas scored off an assist by Ashlyn Whipple. Canon-McMillan (1-0), which advanced to the WPIAL and PIAA championship games last year, had two goals disallowed on offside calls.

Big Macs goalkeeper Megan Virgin made 12 saves.

Bethel Park is 0-2.

• Leah Barnett scored twice to lead Steel Valley over Chartiers-Houston, 3-2, in the Chartiers-Houston Labor Day Tournament.

Barnett scored the game-winner with just 38 seconds to play.

Erin James and Emily Williamson scored for the Bucs.

• Carlynton defeated McGuffey 1-0 in a shootout in the Chartiers-Houston Labor Day Tournament. No other information was available.

• Moriah Wigley scored four goals to power Quaker Valley to a 5-1 win over Charleroi in the Avonworth Tournament. Breanna Miller scored the goal for Charleroi off an assist from Adrianna Gottheld.
