The New York Jets want to see Terrelle Pryor’s progress as a wide receiver for themselves.
A person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press o Wednesday that the Jets will work out the former quarterback as a receiver next week.
Pryor was waived by Cleveland last week after making the Browns’ roster as a wide receiver despite not catching a pass in the preseason. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the team does not announce the names of players it brings in for workouts.
ESPN first reported the Jets’ interest in Pryor, who quarterbacked the Buckeyes to the 2010 Rose Bowl championship over Oregon.
Pryor, a Jeannete graduate, also worked out for New England Monday, but left without a contract, according to the person.
Manziel likely to start for Browns: Like a Broadway understudy, Johnny Manziel knows he might practice with Cleveland’s starters all week and not play Sunday.
“That’s part of it,” he said.
In the theater, and in the NFL.
With starting quarterback Josh McCown still recovering from a concussion, Manziel is preparing as if he’ll start Sunday’s home opener against the Tennessee Titans in what could be a matchup against fellow Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota.
Pacman Jones fined for hit: Bengals cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones was fined $35,000 by the NFL for his personal foul against Raiders receiver Amari Cooper during their opener on Sunday.
Jones got on top of Cooper, knocked off his helmet and slammed his head against it at the end of a play during the second quarter, drawing a penalty for unnecessary roughness. He wasn’t ejected, and a scrum resulted after the play ended.
Jones said Wednesday that he’s going to appeal the fine.
“Everything will work itself out,” Jones said. “I’m going to appeal things. It’s way too much $35,000 is a lot of money for a guy out playing football.”
The NFL won’t publicly confirm fines until Friday.
