Softball: West Greene runs record to 5-1

West Greene wrapped up its trip to the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C., with an 11-2 thumping of Boyd County (Ky.) Sunday.

The Pioneers went 3-1 in South Carolina and now have a 5-1 record. West Greene opens Section 3-A play Tuesday at home against Chartiers-Houston.

Winning pitcher Madison Renner was one four West Greene players to drive in two runs against Boyd County. Bailey Bennington and Kaitlyn Rizor each had a double and two RBI. Lexi Mooney drove in two runs.

West Greene, which is averaging more than 10 runs per game, forged a 3-0 lead after one inning and scored eight runs over the fifth and sixth innings.
