Sehnert, Riotto lead PT past Baldwin
Tor Sehnert hit a three-run homer and Eric Riotto threw a complete game as Peters Township opened Section 5-AAAA play with a 7-1 victory over Baldwin at Peterswood Park.
Sehnert hit his home run in a five-run sixth inning for the Indians (1-0, 3-3) and Riotto struck out nine while not allowing an earned run. The Highlanders (0-1, 1-3) had three hits.
Avonworth 5, Fort Cherry 1: Brock Herzig scattered seven hits over seven innings to lead Avonworth to a 5-1 Section 1-AA win over Fort Cherry.
The Antelopes (1-0, 2-0) took advantage of four errors by the Rangers (0-1, 3-2).
Nate Higham took the loss.
Trinity 9, Yough 6: Tanner Hudak had four hits, including a pair of doubles, as Trinity defeated Yough, 9-6, in a non-section game.
Blake Rohrbacher added a double for the Hillers (2-2), while relief pitcher Kyle Kelley earned the win.
Shane Fajt doubled and Matt Huss took the loss for Yough (3-2).
Belle Vernon 7, Uniontown 0: Joel Engstrom threw a seven-hit shutout as Belle Vernon opened Section 4-AAA play with a 7-0 win over Uniontown.
Justin Ivill doubled and drove in a pair of runs, while Deven Judy and Josh Hoffman had two hits each for the Leopards (1-0, 4-0).
Aaron Skinner took the loss for Uniontown (0-1, 1-4).
Bentworth 15, Avella 3: Robbie Schultz had a double and four RBI as Bentworth exploded for 10 runs in the third inning en route to a 15-3 five-inning victory over the Eagles in a non-section game.
Riley Nickeson picked up the win and Ty Mitchell also doubled for Bentworth (2-2).
Losing pitcher Tyler Fraysier had a double for the Eagles (1-4).
