Softball: Char-Houston wins rematch of Jeff-Morgan
In a rematch of last year’s WPIAL Class A championship game, Chartiers-Houston got the upper hand this time around, beating Jefferson-Morgan, 9-3, in a Section 1-A high school girls softball game Friday.
Kaitlyn Dittrich allowed six hits and struck out nine for the Bucs (4-1, 5-3) to get the win, while Kayla Alderson and Maci Kesneck both doubled for the Bucs.
Nikki Venick and Autumn Tedrow homered for the defending WPIAL champions, while Morgan Simkovic doubled for the Rockets (3-1, 5-4). Camryn Dugan took the loss.
Bentworth 9, Washington 1: Casey Hite threw a three-hitter as Bentworth remained unbeaten in Section 2-AA with a 9-1 win over Washington.
Taylor Smydo and Autumn Zgorlski homered and Morgan Vickless tripled for Bentworth (4-0, 7-1).
Morgan Pattison doubled, while Haley Ellis took the loss for Washington (0-5, 0-5).
Carmichaels 11, Charleroi 1: Winning pitcher Laura Walker allowed three hits and also doubled as Carmichaels beat Charleroi, 11-1, in a five-inning Section 2-AA game.
Megan Walker also doubled for the Mikes (4-2, 5-5), who had 12 hits.
Adrianna Gottheld doubled, while Ashley Smith took the loss for Charleroi (2-4, 3-4).
Burgettstown 16, OLSH 3: Katie Tarr allowed three hits, struck out 10 and also doubled to lead Burgettstown to a 16-3 five-inning Section 1-AA win over Our Lady of Sacred Heart.
Cassie Carnes and Hannad Abbott both tripled, while Tori Carnes, Niah Winters and Cheyanne Winters also doubled for Burgettstown (5-0, 7-2).
Amy O’Neill took the loss for OLSH (1-4, 2-4).
Laurel Highlands 8, Ringgold 4: Laurel Highlands scored foru runs in the fifth inning and held on for an 8-4 win over Ringgold in a non-section game.
Mercedes Sickles drove in two runs and the Mustangs (2-6) and took advantage of eight errors by Ringgold (3-3).
Maddie Beckinger drove in two runs for the Rams.
Mapletown 12, Fort Cherry 8: Maddie Bogden trippled and drove in two runs as Mapletown defeated Fort Cherry 12-8 in a Section 1-A game.
Abby McIntire earned the win with two strikeouts for the Maples (1-3, 2-6) and Riley Carter hit a home run for the Rangers (0-2, 0-6).
Belle Vernon 7, Waynesburg 0: Bailey Parshall pitched a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts and Kourtney Gavatorta drove in two runs as Belle Vernon beat Waynesburg 7-0 in a non-section game.
Megan Christner and Alyssa Larson boht had two hits, and Parshall did not walk a batter for the Leopards (4-2, 8-4). Tara Staley had a double for the Raiders (3-6).
