Softball: Canon-Mac moves back into 4-AAAA lead
Linda Rush hit a two-run homer, Brittney Crawford doubled twice and Abbi Michelucci pitched a five-hitter as Canon-McMillan defeated Baldwin, 5-1, Wednesday and moved back into first place in Section 4-AAAA.
Kirsten Rush hit a two-run double in the third inning to give Canon-Mac (5-1, 9-2) a 2-0 lead. That was all the offense Michelucci needed as Baldwin’s lone score was an unearned run in the fourth inning.
Linda Rush gave the Big Macs a 4-1 lead with a two-run homer in the fifth. Kayla Hopkins had a double for the Big Macs.
The loss knocked Baldwin (5-2, 6-3) out of first place.
• Brynn Boyd knocked in the winning run with a single with no outs in the bottom of the 10th to give Jefferson-Morgan an 8-7 win over Clay-Battelle in a non-section game.
Morgan Simkovic hit a three-run home run and a two-run blast for the Rockets (8-4). Nikki Venick, Camryn Dugan and Brooke Diamond each hit a double. Caitlyn Young struck out nine for Clay-Battelle.
• Emily Pollock allowed two hits and struck out six for for Avella (1-6, 1-8) and also had a triple and four RBI.
Fort Cherry fell to 0-8, 0-4 in the section.
• Kaitlyn Dittrich threw a five-hit shutout, Kaitlyn Scears and Kayla Alderson each drove in three runs and Chartiers-Houston defeated visiting Waynesburg 10-0 in a six-inning non-section game.
Dittrich struck out two and did not issue a walk. She was supported by C-H’s nine hits, which included a two-run double by Scears in the Bucs’ five-run fourth inning. Alderson also had a double as the Bucs improved their record to 7-3. C-H has won six in a row including four via shutout.
• California overcame an early five-run deficit and defeated Mapletown 16-8 in a non-section game.
Rebecca Staley hit a three-run homer, and Kalsie Walker and Kylie Trusler each went 4-for-4 to lead the Trojans’ 16-hit attack. Freshman Bre Trusler was the winning pitcher.
Mapletown (3-6) led 5-0 after one inning but California (3-7) scored eight runs in the second inning.
• Albert Gallatin scored seven runs over the first two innings and defeated vsitiing Ringgold 8-2 in a non-section game.
Lauren Gohacki doubled, and Johnna Mocniak and Kylie Gosliak each had two of the six hits by Ringgold (4-5).
Albert Gallatin is 2-7.
