Softball: Vulcans walk off with win in PSAC tournament opener
Jacquelyn Fowler’s single scored Emily Price for the game-winning run as California defeated Indiana 4-3 in the first round of the PSAC tournament Wednesday in Quakertown.
Trailing 3-2, Vulcans catcher Megan Jahoda led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a solo home run to tie. Price, a sophomore shortstop, hit a one-out single and advanced to second on a groundout. Fowler then lined a 3-1 pitch to left-center field to score Price for the win.
Jahoda was 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Price was 2-for-3 with two runs for the No. 7 Vulcans (33-2), who will face Lock Haven today at noon. Meghan Uher was the winning pitcher in relief.
California struck first in the third inning on a an RBI-single by Natalya Smarra, but the Crimson Hawks (28-17) answered with a three-run fourth. California cut the deficit to one in the bottom of the fourth on a single by Erica Vallecorsa.
