High school baseball: Coleman home run saves Big Macs
Connor Coleman cracked a three-run home run in the second inning that gave Canon-McMillan a 3-2 win over Carrick in a Section 5-AAAA game.
Nick Drake struck out five for the Big Macs (6-4, 10-6). Carrick fell to 0-11, 1-11.
• Belle Vernon scored a run in the top of the sixth and another in the top of the seventh to come away with a 4-2 victory over Thomas Jefferson in a Section 4-AAA game.
Evan Hannan went 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored for BV (8-4, 12-4). Tim Labuda had two hits and scored a run. Luke Galioto homered for TJ (5-7, 7-11).
• Jason Dix tossed a two-hitter and struck out four as Bishop Canevin stopped Avella 8-0 in a Section 5-A game.
The Crusaders are 6-5, 5-3 in the section. Avella fell to 5-10, 4-5 in the section.
• Freedom took advantage of five Fort Cherry errors during a 13-4 victory in a Section 1-AA game.
Jason Norman, Evan DeCiero and Josh Beck each had a double for Freedom (7-5, 8-8). Cole Clark had a two-run home run for the Rangers (3-8, 6-9).
• A nine-run fifth inning propelled Montour to a 10-2 victory over Montour in a Section 3-AAA game.
Frank Guerra, Trent Vietmeier and Adam Celidonia each drove in two runs for the Spartans (7-2, 11-3).
Evan McDaniel drove in two runs for the Hillers (2-7, 5-10).
• Chartiers-Houston scored a run in the sixth and three more in the seventh to take a 5-2 win over Waynesburg in a Section 2-AA game.
Jordan Davis went 2-for-3 with three RBI for the Bucs (8-2, 11-3). Ryan Mele had three hits and Destin Weiser two. Nick Fox went 3-for-3 and Brandon Turcheck 2-for-4 for the Raiders (4-7, 5-10).
• In other games, Brownsville shut out Charleroi, 11-0, in Section 2-AA.
