Rebellion, Escobedo knock off Charge
Dallas Escobedo had one of her more effective games when the Pennsylvania Rebellion needed it most, tossing a one-hit shutout in a 3-0 victory over the Dallas Charge Friday night in front of 812 fans at Consol Energy Park.
Escobedo, the Rebellion’s first-round pick two years ago, struck out seven and walked three for the Rebellion, which raised its record to 15-27 with eight games remaining in the season. The Rebellion, which pulled even with the fifth-place Charge (15-27), began the day five games back of the Chicago Bandits and Akron Racers for the fourth and final playoff berth in the National Pro Fastpitch softball league championship series. Chicago and Akron were tied with 21-23 records at presstime.
The Rebellion got all the runs they needed in the second inning, when Cheyenne Cordes hit a two-run home run off Dallas starter Lauren Haeger. The Rebellion made it 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning when Stacey Porter smacked a solo home run off Haeger.
Escobedo did not allow a hit until Vicky Galasso beat out an infield single in the top of the fifth inning. Escobedo did not allow a runner past second base and struck out the side in the top of the seventh to end the game.
Haeger allowed just three hits but two of them were home runs. Lindsey Stephens had a single in the first inning for the other hit. Haeger struck out two and walked three.
