Wild Things shut out, knocked out of division race
CRESTWOOD, Ill. – If the Washington Wild Things are to make the Frontier League playoffs this season, it will have to be as a wildcard.
That was assured Wednesday night when Windy City defeated the Wild Things, 2-0, and Joliet defeated Lake Erie, 5-2.
The win moved the Slammers to 50-42 with four games remaining, while Washington fell to 45-46, 4½ games behind Joliet in the East Division standings.
Jake Stoley allowed just two hits in six innings for Windy City (40-51), combining with three relievers on a three-hitter.
Kyle Wood homered for the ThunderBolts.
David Popkins hit his 25th double this season for Washington, which trails River City by 2 ½ games for the final wildcard spot.
Matt Fraudlin allowed two runs, both earned, in seven innings to take the loss for the Wild Things.
