Cal moves to 9-0 with win over Millersville
Five players scored in double figures to propel the California University women’s basketball team to an 86-60 victory over Millersville Sunday afternoon at the Convocation Center in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover game.
The win was the ninth straight to start the season for Cal. Millersville fell to 3-5.
Junior forward Seairra Barrett led the team with 19 points and eight rebounds in just 26 minutes. She shot five of seven from the floor and 9 of 10 from the foul line. Shatara Parsons had 13 points, six rebounds, three blocks and three steals.
Redshirt senior Lana Doran added 12 points, three assists and three rebounds, while sophomore Abbey Sporio scored 12 points on four of six shooting, grabbed three rebounds and had two steals. Senior Miki Glenn had 11 points, six assists, three rebounds and two steals.
Senior forward Courtney Hinnant led the Marauders with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Aunjel Van Brakle added 13 points.
Men’s results
Millersville 78, California 74: Sophomore Marcus Adkison scored a game-high 32 points to lead Millersville past California 78-74 Sunday afternoon at the Convocation Center. Cal lost its sixth straight and fell to 2-7. Millersville is 4-3.
Creighton gave the Vulcans a 60-56 lead with a layup before the Marauders went on a 15-4 run over a five-minute stretch to take a 71-64 lead with 6:33 left to play.
Freshman guard Ramon Creighton led four Cal players in double figures, finishing with 20 points, including 14 in second half. He shot 9 of 19 from the floor and added two rebounds and two assists in 36 minutes. The Pittsburgh native has led the team in scoring in seven of nine games this season, including five 20-point games.
Junior Cordell Smith scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds. He also had a team-high five assists. Daniel Sapp and Tony Richardson each scored 10 points and Richardson had nine rebounds.
Jon Lott had 13 points and four assists, and junior Conrad Chambers added 11 points for Millersville.
