Teasdale wins gold at Eastern Area Tournament

Gavin Teasdale began this high school wrestling season the way he completed the previous one.

With a dominating performance.

Teasdale, the two-time undefeated PIAA Class AA champion from Jefferson-Morgan High School, won the 126-pound title Saturday at the Eastern Area Tournament in Monroeville with a technical fall, two pins and a major decision.

Those four wins push his career record to 86-0.

Teasdale won a 22-10 decision over Noah Levett of Kiski in the finals. The Jefferson-Morgan junior won by technical fall, 22-7, over Nick Coy, a sophomore from Penn Trafford, in the semifinals.

Teasdale opened the tournament with a pair of pins: in 51 seconds over Cameron Manns, a sophomore from West Mifflin and in 3:41 over Jason Miller, a junior from Norwin.

Mason Palmer, a junior at Jefferson-Morgan, placed fourth at 113 pounds.

The Rockets finished in 12th place in a field of 26.

Manny Dovshek, a junior from Bentworth, finished third at 120 after pinning Bobby Lawrence of Kiski in 1:20.

With four champions, Kiski won the team title with 298 points. North Allegheny was second with 216.5.

McGuffey won all five meets in the John Marshall Duals.

The Highlanders defeated East Fairmont, 36-33, in the finals after knocking off Oak Glen, W.Va., 36-27, in the semifinals. McGuffey also defeated John Marshall, 36-33, Buckhannon Upshar, 64-9, and Ripley, 48-30.

Jett Pattison was one of three wrestlers to go 5-0. He did it at 132 pounds. Christian Clutter (170) and Jeff McConn (152) were the other two undefeated Highlanders. Luke Shingle went 4-1 at 182 pounds.

Senior heavyweight Brendan Furman and freshman 152-pounder Gerrit Nijenhuis won their weight class to help Canon-McMillan to a fourth-place finish in the Cumberland Valley Tournament.

Furman won a 17-4 major decision over Cam Tinner of Shippensburg.

Nijenhuis pinned William Kandes of Cumberland Valley in 4:32.

Logan Macri was second at 120, Tim Hritsko was second at 138, Blaze Kansco took third at 170 and Michael Binni was sixth at 113 for Canon-McMillan.

Jacob Dunlop finished in eighth place at 113 pounds to help Belle Vernon finish in 38th place at the Walsh Ironman Tournament.

Three-time undefeated state champion Spencer Lee of Franklin Regional won all five bouts to win the 126-pound title. FR finished 21st in a field of 85.
