Monessen’s Rice reaches milestone

Justice Rice hit a free throw at the end of the first quarter for his 1,000th career point as Monessen defeated Jeannette, 69-39, Thursday night in the consolation game of the Franklin Regional boys basketball tournament.

Rice finished with 22 points and added five assists as the Greyhounds (2-2) won without Jaden Altomore, who suffered an injury Wednesday night.

Lyndon Henderson added 12 points and seven rebounds, while Jaron Youngblood had 11 points and eight rebounds for Monessen.

Rylan Bumoskey had nine points to lead Jeannette (0-4).

Bentworth 60, Avella 47: Steven Harner scored 17 points and Bentworth jumped out to an early 14-3 lead en route to a 60-47 win over Avella in a non-section game.

Ray Logan added 12 points and Levi Jordan had 10 for the Bearcats (3-1).

Garrett Geresti scored 17 points and Steve Miller had 12 for Avella (0-2).

Springdale 83, Mapletown 37: Sam Carey scored 36 points to lead Springdale to an 83-37 non-section win over Mapletown.

Dylan Zezza added 17 points for Springdale (3-1).

Ryan Carter led Mapletown (0-4) with 18 points.

Upperman, Tenn., 67, Chartiers-Houston 46: Josh Endicott scored 20 points to push Upperman, Tenn., to a 67-46 victory over Chartiers-Houston at the KSA Tournament in Disney.

Austin McWilliams added 16 points for Upperman (11-1), which led 39-16 at halftime.

Cameron Hanley scored 18 and A.J. Myers tossed in 13 for the Bucs (2-2).

McGuffey 62, Carlynton 44: Trent Belleville had a double-double to help McGuffey to a 62-44 win over Carlynton in non-section game.

Belleville, a 6-2 forward, scored 24 points and had 23 rebounds for the 3-0 Highlanders. Colin Chapman added 16 points, and Sean Edlis pulled down 11 rebounds.

Courtney Mickens led Carlynton (1-2) with 24 points.
