Two local wide receivers – California’s Garry Brown and Washington & Jefferson’s Jesse Zubik – were named to the Associated Press Little All-America Football Team , honoring the top football players in Division II, III and NAIA.

Brown, a 6-1, 200-pound senior, was named to the first team, while Zubik, a 5-10, 180-pound junior, was named second team.

Brown led NCAA Division II with 26 total touchdowns this year, highlighted by a single-season school record 22 receiving touchdowns and three return touchdowns. He finished fifth in the country with 1,475 receiving yards on 91 catches and led wide receivers at all NCAA levels in scoring at 13.0 points per game.

Brown made at least two touchdown receptions in 10 games and finished the year with seven 100-yard receiving games, including five-consecutive performances to close the season. Brown ranked fourth in the country with 184.92 all-purpose yards per game and was one of only two players to eclipse 2,200 all-purpose yards this year.

Zubik had one of the top seasons in W&J and Presidents’ Athletic Conference history this year, recording 97 receptions for 1,413 yards and 18 touchdowns in 11 games. His season totals were among the top marks in W&J and PAC lore, while he also passed Alex Baroffio for the W&J career receiving yardage list, wrapping up his junior season with 3,348 yards.

Colorado Mines quarterback Justin Dvorak and Grand Valley State running back Marty Carter highlighted the team. Dvorak and Carter are among nine finalists for the Harlon Hill Trophy, given to Division II’s best player. Dvorak threw for 4,584 yards and 53 touchdowns this season, leading the Miners to the second round of the Division II playoffs.

Carter is the leading rusher in Division II with a Grand Valley State record 1,908 yards.

St. John’s (Minn.) linebacker Carter Hanson, who won Gagliardi Trophy as Division III’s most outstanding player, led the first-team defense.
