Smith scores 22 as Dukes top Jackson St.

PITTSBURGH – Tarin Smith scored a career-high 22 points, Mike Lewis II added 18, and Duquesne never trailed in defeating Jackson State 74-62 Monday night for the Tiger’s third straight loss.

Nakye Sanders and Isiaha Mike combined for nine points in the Dukes’ 12-3 opening run and Duquesne led by 14 after an 8-0 run capped by a free throw by Eric James. Lewis scored 10 points in the half and the Dukes led 38-26 at halftime, their largest halftime lead of the season.

The Tigers closed to 56-50 on Paris Collins’ jumper midway through the second half, but the Dukes pulled away on a 10-2 run and led by double digits the rest of the way.

Mike finished with 12 points for the Dukes (6-6), who outscored the Tigers 30-18 in the paint but gave up 25 points on 13 turnovers.

Edric Dennis led Jackson State (3-9) with 18 points and Yettra Specks and Collins scored 11 apiece.
