Girls basketball: Marisa helps PT to win
Makenna Marisa scored a game-high 16 points to help Peters Township to a 66-25 victory over Susquehanna Township in the Steelton Highspire Holiday Tournament.
Ally Zuccarini scored 14 points and missed just one shot for the Indians (4-2). Lillian Young also scored 14. Lexie Weikert led Susquehanna Township with eight points.
Jefferson-Morgan 60, Monessen 18: Erin Confortini scored 20 points to lead Jefferson-Morgan past Monessen, 60-18, at the California High School Tournament.
Katy Wolf chipped in 12 and Megan Pejak 10 for the Rockets (4-5). Monessen (0-8) was led by Madison Talegraphis’ eight points.
West Greene 62, Bentworth 12: McKenna Lampe and her sister Madison combined for 35 points to help West Greene defeat Bentworth, 62-12 in the Bentworth Holiday Tournament.
McKenna Lampe tossed in 21 points and Madison Lampe 15 for the Pioneers (6-1). Kaitlyn Rizor added 11 points.
Bentworth fell to 0-8.
Charleroi 51, Sewickley Academy 30: Three players reached double figures to propel Charleroi to a 51-30 victory over Sewickley Academy in the California High School Tournament.
Maria Claybaugh led the way with 13 points for the Cougars (6-2). Kaitlyn Riley tossed in 10 points and Sierra Short had 10.
Olivia Ryder led Sewickley Academy (4-2) with 12 points.
Brentwood 45, Carmichaels 15: A 23-1 run in the first quarter led to a 45-15 win by Brentwood over Carmichaels in the California High School Tournament.
Stephanie Thomas led Brentwood (7-0) with nine points. Kristina Aeschbacher scored five for the Mikes (4-5).
California 53, South Allegheny 26: California defeated South Allegheny 53-26 to advance to the finals of the Lady Trojans Tournament
Bailey Vig led all scorers with 21 points. Jenna Miller added 13 for the Trojans.
Katelyn Wyler scored 9 points for South Allegheny.
Trinity 45, Carlynton 42: After surrendering its lead in the third quarter, Trinity regained it after a 14-10 advantage in the fourth quarter to defeat Carlynton 45-42 in the California University Hoopfest at the Convocation Center.
Sierra Kotchman connected on two three-point field goals on her way to a game-high 17 points to lead Trinity (8-1).
The only other Hiller to score in double figures was Alayna Cappelli, who had 10 points.
Carlynton (4-3) also had two players in double figures as Ashleigh Wilson scored 14 points and Jada Lee tallied 13 points.
Canon-McMillan 51, Obama Academy 42: Junior forward Izzy Allen earned her first double-digit performance by pouring in a team-high 14 points as Canon-McMillan defeated Obama Academy, 51-42, in the California University Hoopfest.
After taking a one-point lead into halftime, C-M (4-4) pulled away with an eight-point advantage in the third quarter to extend its lead to 43-34.
Also scoring in double figures was Cheyenne Trest with 12 points.
Obama Academy (4-2) was paced by 14 points from Taylor Stewart. Michala Porter and Taylin Tyler scored 11 points each.
Brownsville 42, Beth-Center 35: With only 10 points heading into halftime, Beth-Center’s second-half comeback attempt was not enough as it lost 42-35 to Brownsville in the California University Hoopfest.
Leading Brownsville (3-7) was Ally Seto with 13 points. Hannah Batovsky also scored 10 points for the Falcons.
B-C (4-3), who outscored Brownsville, 25-18, in the second half, was led by Olivia Greco’s team-high nine points.
Sto-Rox 56, Mapletown 28: A collective effort from Sto-Rox that featured three players reaching double figures led to a 56-28 victory over Mapletown in the Bentworth Christmas Tournament.
Sto-Rox (4-2) was able to build a 39-10 lead going into halftime behind Janaya Hazlip’s game-high 21 points, while Jaquaya Young and Lexi Frazee scored 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Mapletown (3-6) was led by Kayla Smith’s 11 points.
Chartiers-Houston 50, Freeport 28: Alexa Williamson recorded another double-double performance for Chartiers-Houston as it defeated Freeport, 50-28, in the Riverside LGKG Classic.
Williamson scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as C-H (6-1) built a 28-11 halftime lead it would fail to surrender.
Maddie Clark led Freeport (5-3) with eight points.
Geibel Catholic 41, Waynesburg 31: An 11-point second quarter gave Geibel a lead it would fail to relinquish as it defeated Waynesburg 41-31 in the first-round of the Geibel Christmas Tournament.
Leading Geibel (3-3)to its 15-7 halftime advantage was Grace Novicki, who scored 16 points on the night after going 10 of 14 from the free-throw line.
Waynesburg (0-6) was led by Bree Echegaray’s 10 points.
