Boys basketball: Chartiers-Houston tightens playoff race
A.J. Myers scored 21 points and Chartiers-Houston inched closer to securing a WPIAL playoff spot with a 55-40 Section 3-AA win over Carlynton Monday night.
Cameron Hanley added 13 points for the Bucs (5-8, 11-9), who moved within a half-game of Carlynton (5-7, 9-10) for fourth place in the section. Char-Houston has one game remaining on its section schedule against Fort Cherry at home Friday, while Carlynton has games remaining against Washington and Brentwood.
Tirik Isak led Carlynton with 12 points.
California 71, Geibel Catholic 32: This is a busy week for the California boys basketball team as the Trojans are scheduled to play four times.
The first of those games wasn’t exactly taxing as California cruised to a 71-32 victory over Geibel Catholic in Section 3-A.
The win moved California (10-1, 13-5) to within a half-game of section leader Monessen. The Trojans host Monessen in the regular-season finale Friday night.
Cal’s Kass Taylor led all scorers with 21 points. Ben Wilson and Johnny DeFranco each scored 12 points. Bailey Miller led Geibel (2-9, 3-13) with nine points.
