Girls basketball: Jefferson-Morgan’s Yorko scores 1,000th in Rockets’ win
Kayla Yorko surpassed the 1,000-point mark in Jefferson-Morgan’s 75-30 victory over Mapletown in a Section 3-A game Friday night.
Yorko scored 27 points on six three-point field goals, three field goals and three foul shots. Anna Mattish added 11 for the Rockets (14-0, 20-1).
Kayla Smith had a double-double for the Maples (2-12, 3-17), who trailed 53-11 at halftime.
Beth-Center 45, Bentworth 25: Kinlee Whited scored 19 of her game-high 25 points in the second quarter to lead Beth-Center to a 45-25 in a Section 3-A game.
The win moves playoff-bound Beth-Center to 8-10, including 6-6 in the section. The Bulldogs’ win eliminated Waynesburg from postseason contention.
Heather Chester scored nine points for Bentworth (1-11, 3-18), which scored a combined three total points in the middle two quarters.
West Greene 48, Avella 27: McKenna Lampe scored 16 points and West Greene finished with the most victories since 2000 after a 48-27 win over Avella in a Section 3-A game.
Kaitlyn Rizor added 10 points for the Pioneers (10-4, 16-5), who finished third in the section and in the playoffs.
Kodi Georgetti led Avella (6-8, 9-12) with 11 points. Avella finished in fifth place in the section and out of the playoffs.
