Cal women cruise past Davis & Elkins
CALIFORNIA – Behind five players scoring in double digits, the California University women’s basketball team rolled to a 101-58 victory over Davis & Elkins in non-conference play at the Convocation Center.
It was the first time since the 2012-13 season that California scored 100 points in a game.
Freshman Emily Suckling came off the bench to score a season-high 22 points while playing only 21 minutes. She made 8 of 13 shots, including 6 of 10 from three-point range.
Sophomore Seairra Barrett scored 19 points on 9 of 13 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. Junior point guard Miki Glenn had a solid all-around game, posting a double-double with 17 points and 11 assists. She also had five steals.
Paige Wright contributed 12 points on 4 of 7 shooting from three-point range in the first half, and Shatara Parsons also had a double-double with 11 points and a team-leading 13 rebounds.
Cal improved to 16-5 overall and 10-1 at home.
The Vulcans scored the game’s first 11 points before D&E (9-12) tallied its first basket at the 5:44 mark of the first quarter. The Vulcans then mounted a 12-3 run to stretch their lead to 23-5. Cal led 53-20 at halftime.
