Dunn helps Hillers knock off South Park
Mary Dunn had a triple-double and Trinity jumped out to a 21-10 lead after one quarter to defeat South Park, 64-51, in a non-section high school girls basketball game Monday night.
Dunn had 22 points, 13 rebounds and 11 blocked shots, and Sierra Kotchman scored 23 points for the Hillers (18-3), the second-place team in Section 5-AAA.
Natalie Clydesdale had 19 points and Allison McGrath added 15 for South Park (17-5), the Section 4-AAA champions.
South Fayette 51, Canon-McMillan 45: Mikayla Fetchet’s 13 points helped Section 5-AAA champion South Fayette outlast Section 4-AAAA co-champion Canon-McMillan, 51-45, in a non-section game.
Autumn Mozick had 12 points and Sam Kosmacki 10 for the Lions (18-3), who could be in line for the top seed in the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs. The pairings will be announced today.
Lindsay Beech scored 10 points to lead Canon-McMillan (14-7).
North Allegheny 68, Peters Township 54: North Allegheny used a 28-point first quarter to defeat Peters Township 68-54 in a battle of section champions.
Rachel Martindale had 15 points, Taylor Lake chipped in 13 and Hailey Zeise 12 for the Tigers (19-3), the Section 3-AAAA champions. North Allegheny led 35-25 at halftime. Cameron Morgan had 15 points for the Indians (18-4), who shared the Section 4-AAAA title.
Avella 36, Bentworth 20: Kodi Georgetti scored a tam-high 14 points to help Avella defeat Bentworth, 36-20, in a non-section game at home.
The Eagles (10-12) and Bearcats (3-19) both missed the WPIAL playoffs. Brayden Tarolli added 10 points for Avella. Heather Chester had 14 points for Bentworth, which scored just two third-quarter points.
Elizabeth Forward 60, McGuffey 48: Justice Mitchell had 21 points and Sierra Dawson added 20 as Elizabeth Forward defeated McGuffey, 60-48, in a non-section game.
EF (9-13) jumped out to an 18-9 lead in the game.
Katie Demi had 22 points for McGuffey, which finishes its season at 1-21 and saw its losing streak climb to 14 consecutive games.
