Bellhys, W&J down Saint Vincent
Washington & Jefferson continued its dominant run in PAC play Wednesday night and once again, it was the Bellhy sisters that propelled the Presidents to a key conference win.
Rachel and Beka Bellhy combined for 40 points as W&J defeated Saint Vincent, 76-58, at the Carey Center, extending the Presidents’ winning streak to nine games.
W&J (14-1, 19-3) will face first-place Thomas More 1 p.m. Saturday at home, and a win would put the two teams in a tie atop the standings.
Rachel had a game-high 21 points with eight rebounds, and Beka added 19 points with eight rebounds. The two combined for 23 of W&J’s 37 first-half points to help the Presidents forge a 13-point halftime lead.
W&J outscored the Bearcats (6-9, 11-11), 21-9, in the first quarter. Saint Vincent shot just 21.2 percent from the field in the first half and was led by Susie Ellis’ 18 points. Taylor Cortazzo added 12 for W&J, which shot 47.7 percent from the field.
Waynesburg 76, Thiel 56: Waynesburg scored 40 second-half points and used a hot start to defeat Thiel, 76-56, in a PAC game at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
Maura Bobby and Katie Gehlmann both had 14 points for the Yellow Jackets (8-7, 10-12), who scored 22 first-quarter points and led 36-27 at halftime after making six three-pointers. Addy Knetzer added eight points and 15 rebounds. Waynesburg got 26 points from its bench to snap a five-game losing streak.
Thiel (3-12, 3-19), which shot just 29.7 percent from the field, got 21 points from Jess Vormelker.
