Cal routs Seton Hill

GREENSBURG – Shatara Parsons had 23 points and 13 rebounds as California routed Seton Hill, 76-46, in a women’s PSAC-West basketball game Saturday.

Seairra Barrett added 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Vulcans (15-4, 18-5), who also got 10 points six steals and six assists from Mikki Glenn.

The Vulcans turned the ball over just eight times compared to 25 for Seton Hill (9-10, 13-12). Jharrin Gill and Mariah Wells, the Griffins’ starting guards both failed to score a point and combined for five assists and 15 turnovers.

Jenn Kaufman led Seton Hill with 13 points.

Waynesburg 70, Bethany 67: Addy Knetzer scored a game-high 28 points, making 13 of 16 shots from the field, and Waynesburg overcame an early 15-point deficit to beat visiting Bethany, 70-67, in a PAC game.

Bethany (6-10, 8-15) scored the game’s first 15 points and held Waynesburg (9-7, 11-12) scoreless for the opening 6:52.

The Yellow Jackets, however, closed the first quarter on an 11-0 run to pull to within four points, but Bethany led 32-24 at halftime. Waynesburg closed to within 46-42 after three quarters and finally took the lead for good at 62-61 when Katie Gehlmann made two free throws with 1:26 remaining. Gehlmann, who finished with 11 points, made a layup that gave Waynesburg a three-point edge and the Yellow Jackets secured the come-from-behind win by making six free throws in the final 27 seconds.

Heather Davis scored 16 points for Waynesburg. Knetzer grabbed eight rebounds.

Hayley Holenka led Bethany with 18 points.

Men’s basketball

Seton Hill 83, California 68: Trevor Blondin and Noah Davis scored 25 points each as Seton Hill pulled away from California in the second half for an 83-68 PSAC-West win over the Vulcans.

California (4-15, 7-18) forced 10 first-half turnovers to keep the game close in the first 20 minutes when the game was tied at 37.

But Seton Hill (9-10, 11-12) cleaned up its play in the second half and Davis scored 18 points, including hitting five three-pointers, to help the Griffins pull away.

Kameron Taylor added 12 points nad seven assists for Seton Hill.

Nick Miller had 19 points, Fort Cherry High School graduate Nate Bellhy added 13 and Tony Richardson chipped in 12 for the Vulcans. Bellhy played at Seton Hill as a freshman.

Bethany 67, Waynesburg 63: Calique Jones had 19 points as Bethany held off Waynesburg, 67-63, in a PAC game.

Andrew Williams added 17 points, Alan Harper 10 and Antionio Rudolph had 10 rebounds for the Bison (11-5, 15-8), who led 39-29 at the half.

D.J. Ritchie had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Waynesburg (9-7, 9-14), which also got 13 points for B.J. Durham and 10 from Trinity High School graduate Christian Koroly.

But the Yellow Jackets could not overcome a game in which they shot just 33 percent from the floor, including 4 of 18 from three-point range.

Thomas More 96, Washington & Jefferson 63: Ryne Callahan had 19 points to lead five scorers in double digits as Thomas More wore down undermanned Washington & Jefferson, 96-63, in a PAC game.

Thomas More (11-5, 14-9) outrebounded W&J (1-15, 1-22) 46-19, including holding the Presidents without an offensive rebound.

Simon Clifford had 16 points, Michael Griffin 15, Sawyer Pauly 12 and Damion King 11 for the Saints.

Brian Graytok led W&J, which played just six players, with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Brian Lindquist scored 17 points in the losing effort.
