Union slows down California, faces Monessen next

IMPERIAL – Union limited California to just 10 points in the second half to blow open a close game and defeat the Trojans, 51-31, in a WPIAL Class A boys first-round playoff game at West Allegheny High School.

Union, which advances to play top-seeded Monessen in the second round, led just 32-21 at the half over the Trojans, who finish their season at 14-8.

But the Scotties (12-10) slowed things down in the third quarter, taking a 37-26 lead into the fourth quarter before pulling away late.

Garrison Bell led Union with 19 points, while Tre-von Charles added 11.

John DeFranco led California with 12 points.
