California comes up short against Riverview

MONROEVILLE – Sadie Buchser scored 17 points Thursday as Riverview held on to beat California, 38-33, in a girls WPIAL Class A first-round playoff game at Gateway High School.

California, which finishes its season at 14-8, led 12-11 at the half in a slow-paced game, but Riverview went on a 15-3 run in the third quarter to take a 26-15 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Trojans opened things up in the final eight minutes, outscoring Riverview 18-12, but fell short.

Bailey Vig led California with a game-high 20 points while Ariel Rafferty added 15 points for Riverview, which will face North Catholic in the quarterfinals.
