WPIAL sets sites for Saturday quarterfinal playoff games
The WPIAL announced playoff sites for Saturday’s WPIAL basketball quarterfinal games and Washington will return to a familiar site to try to knock off one of the top teams in the state.
The eighth-seeded Prexies (17-6) will play top-seeded Aliquippa (22-0), which won the WPIAL title and was the PIAA runner up last season, in a Class AA boys quarterfinal game at West Allegheny (6 p.m.), where they defeat Laurel in a first-round game Thursday night.
In Class AAA girls, second-seeded Trinity (19-3), which defeated Belle Vernon 65-27 in the first round, will travel up Route 19 for a quarterfinal game against seventh-seeded South Park (18-5) at Peters Township High School (1 p.m.). The Hillers defeated the Eagles, 64-51, in a non-section game early this month.
South Fayette (19-3), which is the top seed in Class AAA, will face Section 5-AAA rival Chartiers Valley (15-8) at North Allegheny (2:30 p.m.). The Lions swept the Colts during the regular season, but won both games by an average of just 8 points.
