Wash High boys hands Laurel rare loss

Three players scored in double figures and Washington hit 10 of 12 shots down the stretch to knock off Laurel, 76-66, in the Chuckie Mahoney Classic in Burgettstown.

Matt Popeck scored 23 points for the Prexies (5-5), who had 10 steals in the game. Nate Swart and Markel Pulliam each added 18 points.

Scott Siddal poured in 16 points for Laurel, which lost for only the second time in 11 games. Mason Mraz added 15, Jordan Danico 12 and Jake Wilson 10.

Canon-McMillan 47, Hopewell 31: Canon-McMillan held Hopewell to three points in the fourth quarter to secure a 47-31 win in the Chuckie Mahoney Classic in Burgettstown.

Carson Miller led the Big Macs (5-6) with 16 points and Britton Beachy added 15.

Hopewell, led by Griffin Curry’s 11 points, fell to 1-7.

Carmichaels 42, West Greene 29: Carmichaels held West Greene to four first half points on the way to a 42-29 victory in a non-section game.

Liam Shea led the Mikes (5-4) with 17 points and Blake Conard contributed 13.

Craig Weaver scored a team-high 15 for the Pioneers (5-5).

Chartiers-Houston 61, McGuffey 53: A.J. Myers scored a game-high 28 points and Chartiers-Houston used a strong second quarter to secure a 61-53 win over McGuffey in the Chuckie Mahoney Classic in Burgettstown.

The Bucs (7-4) outscored McGuffey, 20-7, in the second quarter. Shaun Sanders led the Highlanders (5-5) with 26 points.

Weir, W.Va., 59, Burgettstown 54: Jonathan West scored 21 points to pace Weir, W.Va., to a 59-54 win over Burgettstown in the Chuckie Mahoney Classic in Burgettstown.

Weir (4-3) outscored the Blue Devils, 12-6, in the third quarter to help turn the game.

Jarred John and Jacob Schrockman each scored 13 points for Burgettstown (4-8).

Girls Results

Avella 49, Weir, W.Va. 40: Kodi Georgetti scored 14 points and Avella outscored Weir 17-3 in the second quarter as the Eagles won their game at the Mahoney Classic, 49-40.

Joelle Gossett added 13 points for the Eagles (3-6), who won despite shooting just 16 of 36 from the foul line.

Bailey Stead scored 17 points to lead Weir (2-5).

Washington 66, Burgettstown 53: Four players scored in double figures to power Washington to a 66-53 win over Burgettstown in the Chuckie Mahoney Classic in Burgettstown.

Carly Allen and Torri Finley each tossed in 16 points for the Prexies (8-3), who outscored Burgettstown, 22-11, in the third quarter. Tajah Gordon chipped in 12 and Mikala Maltoni added 10.

Kacie Trasko scored 15 points and Katie Tarr 13 for the Blue Devils.

OLSH 69, McGuffey 37: Courtney Alexander scored 17 points to help Our Lady of Sacred Heart to a 69-37 victory over McGuffey in the Chuckie Mahoney Classic in Burgettstown.

Tara Richardson chipped in with 14 points and Bella Marra 11 for OLSH (9-2).

Katie Demi led the Highlanders (1-9) with 16 points.

Chartiers-Houston 63, S.S. Beaver 23: Chartiers-Houston’s defense held South Side Beaver to under 10 points in each quarter to grab a 63-28 victory in the Chuckie Mahoney Classic in Burgettstown.

Jala Walker led a balanced scoring attack with 16 points for the Bucs (9-2).

South Side Beaver fell to 3-8.
